The quality of the street has a major impact on how a retail corridor functions and how it sustains the uses that front it. What is the quality of Milwaukee Avenue’s street as a public space? Milwaukee Ave will be getting upgrades under the Complete Streets program later this year. Will these go far enough? What has been the experience of other Complete Streets redesigns? Should there be more significant interventions like street closure, or small catalytic “tactical urbanism” improvements like painting crosswalks or adding street furniture?
